    Newsletter- Winter 2016

Welcome back everyone- wishing you all a happy & healthy new year. It’s finally show year!! We have a very busy, & very exciting couple of terms ahead- please keep an eye on the noticeboards, website & facebook group for up to date information on this fabulous event. 

It’s nearly show time again!   
To remind you, this fabulous event will be held on Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th July 2016, at The Point Theatre in Southampton. You must fill put a consent form in order to take part in this event- if you have not already done so, please do so as soon as possible. You can get a copy from the studios, downloaded from our Facebook page, or submitted via the website. A £10 deposit is also required for costumes for the show- please ensure this is paid promptly, so that we are able to begin purchasing. Costumes are yours to keep after the show.
This is a non-profit event, with all proceeds going to the Piam Brown Paediatric Oncology ward, at Southampton General Hospital, a wonderful charity, that treats children from birth to 18 years old undergoing treatment for various cancers. In 2012 & 2014, we raised over £8000 for the charity!
As always, we are looking for volunteers to help out, including a team of DBS-cleared matrons, or licensed chaperones to look after children in the dressing rooms & transport them to & from the wings during the performance, any skilled needle workers out there who can help with costume making or any dads that may be able to turn their hands to a bit of scenery construction!
Treading the Boards will have it’s cinema debut in September- please look out for further information on this great event. 

A polite request- please bear in mind that a lot of work goes into choreographing show dances, & it is very hard for teachers to progress their dances, particularly senior dances, when there are lots of absences. We do, of course, understand that our students have academic pressures, and other commitments to fulfil, but please extend a little courtesy in letting us know if you will be missing classes, so that we can plan accordingly. It is disruptive for all involved, to have to keep re-visiting choreography, to teach those that have missed sections.

Many thanks for your understanding.

Here’s to another fabulous show!! 

    Uniform

A gentle reminder that new uniform is now compulsory. Please see the notice boards at the studios for full details. Along with the new uniform, the teachers request that a neat bun is worn for ALL classes, & that leotard & tights be worn for jazz & conditioning classes (non-uniform leotard is fine), please. A small note, regarding ballet shoes- I am aware that you can purchase ballet shoes in some supermarkets now. Whilst the price & convenience of these is very appealing, unfortunately, these do not always fit well, & can lead to issues when children take exams, & an improved fit is required. Rachel, of Roynon Dancewear, is always on hand to ensure that little feet will look their best in their shoes. 

    Exams

Congratulations to all those that took exams last term- our students achieved a really impressive set of results, with 100% achieving either a merit or a distinction in the ballet & modern sessions, & 90% in the tap session!
Congratulations to the following students who scored the highest marks on each day- Emily Wells for Ballet Grade 4, with 85 marks (Distinction), Natasha Doble for Modern Grade 4 & Elizabeth Ernsberger for Modern Grade 2, with 81 marks each (Distinction) & Emily Wells, for Tap Grade 4 & Hollie Jeffery for Tap Adult Test 1 with 84 marks each (Distinction). Well done all of you, all the teachers are very proud!
Our next exam session will be held in mid February. There will be no Easter or summer session this year, due to show rehearsals disrupting the usual workload of lessons.
In order to maintain our recent high standards & excellent exam results, I must advise that students that miss 3 lessons in an exam term will not be entered for, & may be withdrawn from an exam. If you are aware that your child may miss lessons in exam term, please advise the class teacher as soon as possible-we are more than happy to move your child to the next level without taking an exam, but we are not comfortable entering children who are nervous & unprepared for exams, so would rather do this than having the disappointment of having to withdraw a student close to their exam.
Students taking exams of Grade 4 or higher must be attending a minimum of 3 ballet classes per week, in order to achieve the standard necessary at this level.
Thank you for your support in this matter.
